April is Oral Cancer Awareness month, and it's estimated that over 55,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer in the United States this year.

Awareness of oral, head, and neck cancer is relatively low.  Smoking and tobacco are primary risk factors, however young, nonsmoking people are now the fasting growing population of oral cancer patients due to factors such as the human papilloma
virus (HPV).

For many support groups, this month's awareness initiative is on the importance of screening, primarily thru dental offices.  Check with your local dentist to find out more about screening options near you.
